2011 Roots Conference

We Invite You
to the Roots Conference

Join us as we launch our first annual national-level Roots Conference for educators and after school staff, with crossover topics relevant to mental health and public health professionals. The conference will be held in beautiful Visalia, California - located in the central San Joaquin Valley just minutes from national parks and forests. As you may know, this area is isolated from many of the training opportunities throughout California, making this event significantly important to the area and to the professional development of the individuals who are working hard to address the issues affecting the youth of our communities.

The Roots Conference has been carefully aligned with the U.S. Department of Education and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration objectives to provide you with proven strategies for increased student academic performance and success in school and life. Hear from an impressive array of cutting-edge speakers, including Pedro Noguera, Ph.D., a renowned teacher, author and expert on school reform, diversity and the achievement gap.

In addition, you will enjoy a global musical and artistic entertainment experience, representing cultures from throughout our community and the world, that will inspire you to cultivate opportunities for youth to grow to their fullest potential. You will also have the opportunity to connect with exhibitors who will share resources, including products and services that will maximize the effectiveness of your programs.

Proceeds from the conference will stay in the communities of the central San Joaquin Valley. Roots Collective, Inc. will use a portion of the proceeds to provide supplemental services that support the social and emotional development of students in after school programs. Additionally, individuals and/or organizations who attend the conference will qualify to apply for mini-grants for innovative projects that address the needs of youth and their families.

"An atmosphere that provides support for one's social and emotional learning and competence versus one that does not can make a huge difference in that child's life. The difference is equal to the difference in the outcome of throwing seeds on cement versus planting seeds in enriched soil. And what a difference that is!"
Dr. James Comer, 1999
